October 15th is Global Handwashing Day!
I don’t know about you, but over here at The Soule Collective we are big fans of handwashing. We love to use good, old-fashioned bars of soap or liquid hand soap. You know the kind that gets all sudsy on your hands when you add just the right amount of warm water?
We love to let the warmth and the suds combine and smooth all over our hands. For up to a minute, but 30 seconds will do! Feel that perfectly splendid feeling of delightfully clean skin as the water washes away the dirt, grime, and germs. And what better way to talk about global handwashing day than to discuss how to do it best?
How Soap Cleans and Purifies Your Hands
Speaking of which, it turns out that germs (bacteria and viruses) are the “populations” that just despise a good splash of soap and water. Actually, it kills them. What a bonus! What a miracle! What a wonderful thing! (And what better way to celebrate Global Handwashing Day than scrubbing off the germs.)
All we need to do is remember to wash our hands and we can fight the spread of many, many diseases. Including the common cold, flu, and much, much more. (Bear with me here. I’m trying to get through this post without saying the “P” or “C” words! You know which ones…).
One of my favorite bath time brands is LUSH. They give the skinny in this article on why inexpensive soap is just as good (or better) than the fancy stuff that flies off the shelves. AND they give you step-by-step instructions on how to properly wash your hands. That’s pretty important if you’re going to celebrate Global Handwashing Day properly.
Also, it’s best not to forget to moisturize either.
Choose Lush for Global Handwashing Day
LUSH is not only trying to keep you clean and healthy, but they’re also doing their part in trying to keep our planet healthy. LUSH products produce very little waste from packaging. They do not use animal testing. And they practice ethical buying for their ingredients, are handmade (and vegetarian) to boot!
As a matter of fact, LUSH is one of those companies founded and ran by people that are what I call “accidental yogis”. People and organizations that operate within the fundamental principles of how to live as a yogi.
LUSH: An Ethical Handwashing Soap
LUSH actively refrains from violence, lying and stealing. They don’t harm animals (ahimsa). They’re transparent with consumers about their ingredients (asteya). And they don’t steal our common resources by creating more waste and destroying our environment (asteya).
At the same time, LUSH actively participates in shaucha, santosha, and svadhyaya. This is purity and cleanliness in and of their products and practices, contentment with a business that thrives. They may not be a behemoth company, but they continued self-study and reflection aimed at improving their business practices and products.
Whether accidental or not, be a yogi. Be clean, be kind, and be truthful.
Happy Global Handwashing Day! Celebrate it right by sending someone a bar of soap!
